Iowa Baseball Managers are tasked with a multitude of responsibilities to help the program be the best it can be while aiding in the progression of personal and career development. Managers will experience working for a Division I baseball program as well as gain knowledge and experience operating technology used by all Major League Baseball organizations. It is expected that Iowa Baseball Managers will strive to do the little things to make a meaningful impact on the development of our players. All four departments play a significant role in the betterment of our program and help us compete to win a Big Ten Championship. On-Field Manager

Job Description

This position entails attending practice regularly to assist coaches and players in the general flow of practice. With many tasks to tackle each day, an On-Field Manager must have strong organizational and time management skills. This position has the greatest opportunity to impact all departments and is the traditional student manager role. On-Field Managers should plan on being at the field a minimum of 5 hours, 4-6 days per week, typically in the afternoon.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Daily set-up and tear-down of practice equipment
  • Organize and assist with drills throughout practice
  • Feed machines, front toss, and throw BP during the hitting portion of practice
  • Organize and maintain equipment
  • Complete any other tasks assigned by the coaching staff to ensure practice flows smoothly
  • Assist with gameday on-field operations

Qualifications

  • Ability to adjust to changes on the fly and work in a fast-paced environment
  • General baseball knowledge & passion for the game
  • Ability to safely play catch, lift heavy objects (50+ pounds), and run
  • While not required, candidates with the ability to catch bullpens (90+ MPH) are strongly preferred

Data Analyst Manager

Job Description

Data Analysts are tasked with utilizing data to impact player development and on-field performance, as well as assisting the coaching staff with data-driven decisions. These managers spend the majority of their time in the office but are given the chance to assist the Video & Technology staff at practice. Our current group of analysts use R, Python, and SQL (it is not a requirement to be proficient in these upon applying). Data Analysts should plan on being in the office 15+ hours per week.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Analyze and interpret data from Trackman, Blast Motion, and HitTrax
  • Effectively communicate findings to coaches and other staff members
  • Write blog posts upon completing research projects

Qualifications

  • Passion for baseball analytics
  • Solid understanding of baseball strategies and sabermetric concepts
  • Basic comprehension of mathematical concepts
  • Strong presentation and visualization skills

Video & Technology Manager

Job Description

Video & Technology Managers will attend practice regularly to capture video and operate player development technology. A manager in this department has a significant role in the process of providing coaching staff and players with information and data from practice. Video & Technology Managers should plan on being at practice 4-6 days a week, typically in the afternoon.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Operate Trackman, Edgertronic, and BATS! (It is not a requirement to have experience with these before applying)
  • Set up and tear down of cameras used during practices and games
  • Assist in gameday video operations

Qualifications

  • Ability to troubleshoot technology malfunctions or difficulties
  • General baseball knowledge & interest in the game
  • Willingness to adapt and learn things quickly
Operations Assistant Manager

Job Description

This position provides an opportunity to gain valuable office experience working directly under the Director of Baseball Operations. This is a relatively fluid position that experiences different responsibilities in the office as well as during practice nearly every day. Self-starting individuals who will initiate and can problem solve will succeed in this position. The hours for this position are more flexible than other positions and can come on short notice. Operations Assistants should plan to be at the facility a minimum of 4-6 days per week.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Help organize and run Iowa Baseball camps
  • Assist with scouting reports
  • Operate the Iowa Baseball Managers Twitter account and assist in operating the Iowa Baseball Instagram account

Qualifications

  • General interest in baseball
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
  • Experience with Photoshop or similar programs (not required, but strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency in social media, specifically Twitter and Instagram
